The lower level of an existing grand Victorian in San Francisco's Pacific Heights is transformed from a series of small enclosed service rooms to a single large open plan area. This plan change is accomplished through the use of hidden elements (concealed seismic braces) and exposed objects (aluminum egg). The plan objects are used to both animate the open space as well as to allow the floor to act as a unified whole which flows around a series of discrete elements.
